PLAYER PROP DEFINITION
What is a Player Prop?
A Player Prop is a unique bet on whether a specific player will achieve a set number of statistics. Unlike most other bet types, Player Props bets are focused on a single player (or sometimes multiple players) rather than an outcome for a whole team. A benefit of a player prop bet is that even if your team isn’t playing well, the player involved in your prop bet might still be performing, giving you a chance to win.
A reason you might want to bet on a specific player's prop market is to take advantage of a specific player matchup or a weak defense. If you know LeBron James' next game is against an undermanned Oklahoma City Thunder team or Patrick Mahomes is coming up against a typically weak quarterback pass defensive team, you might feel that there is value betting on their prop markets.
Some examples of these player prop bets include betting on LeBron James to score over (or under) 27.5 points or if Patrick Mahomes will throw over 300 passing yards. Beware though, Sportbooks also do take into account the players next matchup when calculating players prop lines and odds.
