What is a Line?
Line betting is a form of betting whereby the bookmaker handicaps a team by setting a margin, which effectively makes the game equal. That is, a predetermined number of points are either subtracted from the favorite’s tally, or added to the underdog’s tally, typically with the intention of creating close to a 50% chance of winning for each team. For example, say the Chicago Bulls are +5.5 and Cleveland Cavaliers are -5.5, if the final score is 100 (Cleveland) to 97 (Chicago), Chicago wins against the Line.
Lines can also be referred to as the Points Line, Run Line & Goal Line in their respective sports.
