What does a spread of -8 mean?
A spread of -8 means that the team must win the game by 9 points/goals/runs or more for the spread bet to win. If the team only wins the game by 8 this is known as a push, meaning the spread bet results in no winner or loser. In this case the bettor will be returned the stake of their original bet but won’t be paid out as a winner. A spread bet is a bet on the margin of victory with a handicap (or line) attached to it, in this case the handicap is -8.
