RUN LINE DEFINITION
What is a Run Line?
The Run Line is a type of spread bet available when betting specifically on Baseball. The Run Line is always set at 1.5, which means the favorite always has their run line set at -1.5 runs and the underdog run line is always set at +1.5 runs.
If a team has a positive run line (+1.5) this means that they are the underdog and in order to win the Run Line bet the team would either need to win the game or only lose the game by 1 run.
If a team has a negative run line (-1.5) this means that they are the favorite and in order to win the Run Line bet the team would need to win the game by 2 or more runs.
For example, if the Los Angeles Dodgers were favorites against the San Francisco Giants (who are the underdogs) the Run Line market would have the Dodgers with a negative 1.5 (-1.5) attached to them while the Giants would have a positive 1.5 (+1.5) attached to them.
For the Dodgers -1.5 bet to win you would need the Dodgers to win the game by 2 or more runs, for the Giants +1.5 bet to win you would need the Giants to win the game or only lose the game by 1 run.
