What is a Dead Heat?
A Dead Heat occurs when two or more competitors finish tied in a race (usually in horse racing and greyhound racing). In a two-way dead heat,
odds are paid to half the
stake. For example, if you placed $24 on a horse at +900 ($
10.00), it would return $120 (12 x $
10.00). In a three-way dead heat,
odds are paid to one third of the
stake. Using the same example, it would return $80 (8 x $
10.00).
